Three hard truths you need to hear about the short term rental industry:
The STR industry is too saturated and unpredictable for you to NOT be marketing your business outside of OTAs. Your own marketing is a unique way to differentiate your listing from others around you.
There’s a massive push for direct booking but if you’re not marketing your property, no one is going to your direct booking site.
OTAs could change their algorithm at any point or you get one 3 star review from that guest you knew you should have declined, and poof, your bookings tank. Don’t leave the marketing of your business in the hands of a platform you have 0 control over.

Social Media:
Picture this - A group stays at your well-designed property and is sharing their experience on Instagram, but unfortunately, you don’t have an account. This is one of the most effective ways to get guests to rebook your property and book direct (or through an OTA again if you don’t have direct booking). Using software like StayFi will allow you to capture guest info and then market to them again and again. This is especially helpful if you plan to launch or already have multiple properties.
If you do have your own website, you can also capture potential guests by offering some kind of opt-in that requires visitors to hand over their emails (quiz, downloadable PDF, or discount on first stay). We help STR owners build out and automate their email marketing.
Website & Blog:

If you have a direct booking website or even just a website that’s linking back to your property’s listing on an OTA, having a blog is a valuable asset for SEO, driving organic traffic to your site.
When you use a blog, we recommend leveraging Pinterest as a social media strategy because travel is one of the top 10 most searched topics on the platform + content on Pinterest has a longer lifespan than other social media platforms.
